We have a question regarding exercise 4 in assignment 3. In this exercise we have to identify all noun phrases of the text. The question now is: What Context free grammar we have to use for finding the NP or if we have to come up with our own CFG?

In exercise 4 you only need to pretend to be a computer, so you actually don't have to write a program to do this or even do it exactly like a particular program. You can use your own linguistic analysis skills to extract the noun phrases. If you are unsure what constitutes a noun phrase, you could check the definition on wikipedia. Hope that helps, - Hannes Högni

Another question about exercise 4 here. Part 1, section c . Is the "pretend program" here not smart enough to label multiple occurrences of the same noun phrase as the same discourse entity? Should there be e.g. a "HANSEL2" entity or will subsequent mentions of Hansel after the first one be associated with the first one? The algorithm description indicates otherwise, but it seems strange.
Edit: Also, the algorithm will correctly label words such as "sister" as femenine even though English has no grammatical genders right?
