Hi everyone,
This is our first discussion thread for the Game Engine Architecture course. We'll start by introducing ourselves.
I am the instructor for this course and interactive virtual environments in general are one of my favorite topics in computer science. I got interested in interactive graphics during my bachelor studies back in 1991 when I found a book of scientific papers from the ACM conference on computer graphics (SIGGRAPH). The papers were full of computer generated photos that were attempts at imitating various natural phenomena. This task seemed like the perfect blend of science, technology and art.
I got my PhD in Media Arts and Sciences from the MIT Media Lab in 2003 and worked as a research scientist at UCS's Information Sciences Institute for 3 years before joining Reykjavik University. At Reykjavik University I'm doing research in the Center for Analysis and Design of Intelligent Agents (CADIA), where my focus is creating lifelike agents and avatars for social game environments. I have also co-founded two game companies, Alelo Inc. in Los Angeles, that develops games for teaching language and social skills, and MindGames ehf. in Reykjavik, that develops games for training mental skills using brainwave headsets.
Now I would like to hear more about you. Who are you? Have you done any game development before? Are you planning to develop games in the future? What would you like to learn from this class?
I also highly recommend that you add a photo to your forum profile (just go into "profile" above and provide an URL to a 100x100 photo of you). Your participation in these forums counts towards your "participation grade", so get some "cheap" points by being visible here
Cheers,
